Thoughts on the current state of the world with the COVID-19 Crisis

I’m home from my day job with a migraine today and not in the mood to get into a political war. I have a strict rule of no politics or religion on my social media. Times right now are uncertain and for lack of other terms on the brink of insanity. I know because it’s got my anxiety on overdrive these days. The media does not help matters and if you want a true account of things read from multiple outlets so you can figure out as close to the truth as possible. There is no such things as an unbiased media opinion. You have to read from both sides to find the middle ground yourself. Most of us are clearly on one side or the other but I implore you all to educate yourselves on things before passing judgement. Do not take the media at its word. They are biased viewpoints of people who already have formed opinions about each side of things. Read the legislation that congress is voting on for yourself. If you fail to educated yourself and remain ignorant to the real truth then you allow yourself to be a slave to what the media wants you to know and what the politicians want you to know. Then your lack of the real truth is your own fault. We have a duty to ourselves and to the future generations to gain this knowledge so we can fight for ourselves and our future. Yes I am keeping my own opinions out of it and my own thoughts to not start a war. I am saying nothing more than please read everything you can from every source you can. The more sources you read, the more chance you have of knowing the real truth. You know that saying that opinions are like assholes and everyone ass one? It’s the truth. I see that more and more every day. Before I switched to studying the legal system, I was studying history. My specialty is Medieval to Early Modern Europe and I know the Black Plague all too well. I also know from my studies that history is not written by the losers but the victors. It is not written by the dead but the survivors. There are people saying now that we are living what will be a history class one day. Right now our choices are important. In times like these I think of quotes from two book series that really stand out. One being Tolkien who took his inspiration from his survival and PTSD after fighting in World War I and the other from JK Rowling who got her inspiration after overcoming severe depression (take that haters who down the Harry Potter books and have not even cracked the cover of the first book. If you would actually read you would know they are not encouraging the practice of witchcraft at all. That’s a soapbox for another day though.). These quotes are important in trying times such as these as they are about people in trying times. I don’t want to feel like I’m living in what is becoming something Dystopian. However, I am a writer and it is hard for my imagination to not run wild. My point here is that in my study of history we have to learn from it or we are doomed to repeat it. In the here in now, we must not fall to ignorance. We have to make sure we are aware of everything going on in our current situation so that our situation does not become something worse than it already is. I will not call people out. I will not be a person that says these people are not doing this. I will say I think everyone in the government is acting like overgrown children and they all need to get it together and focus on helping the people not pouring millions upon billions of dollars into businesses. I think as people we need to educate ourselves, call out our people in the government and tell them to fight for us as people, help each other because the the actions of the hoarding has been terrible, and think about spreading more kindness into this world. Right now what we need is a government focused on the people and more love in this world. There’s still too much hate going on even in times like this. Think about that people. Think about kindness. Think about the good we can still do for others because we still aren’t doing enough. People are sick, people are dying, people are struggling because of loss of income and jobs. Right now we have to think of everything we can do that’s good and focus on that while we get through these times. They’re hard and it’s hard. I’m stressed and my anxiety is making me so crazy. I just still want to know that good exists. I leave you all with these quotes.
  • “Dark times lie ahead of us and there will be a time when we must choose between what is easy and what is right.” – quote by Albus Dumbledore from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by JK Rowling
  • “I wish it need not have happened in my time,” said Frodo. “So do I,” said Gandalf, “and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.” from The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring by JRR Tolkien
  • “It is our choices that show who we truly are far more than our abilities.” quote by Albus Dumbledore from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by JK Rowling
  • “Frodo: What are we holding onto, Sam? Sam: That there’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo… and it’s worth fighting for.” – from The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers by JRR Tolkien (movie adaptation)

Currently Reading: The Red Queen by Philippa Gregory

redqueencoverRight now I am reading The Red Queen (The Cousins’ War #2) by Philippa Gregory. Gregory is an author who I had been wanting to read for some time. I am officially in love with her writing! She spins some incredible historical fiction that leaves me constantly aching for more. I have the hardest time putting her books down! The first of her books I read was The White Queen (The Cousins’ War #1) and it tells the story of Elizabeth Woodville, wife and Queen to Edward IV of England. The Red Queen, which I am currently reading, is the story of Margaret Beaufort, mother of Henry Tudor aka King Henry VII of England. I had never read much about her though I am fascinated by Tudor era England. Margaret is a member of the Lancaster branch of the Plantagenet family, hence the title of The Red Queen. The title for The White Queen comes from Elizabeth being the Queen to the York Plantagenet King Edward IV and mother to the Princes in the Tower. I was already fascinated by the history of the Wars of the Roses, especially knowing my ancestors are those Lancasters. So far, Margaret’s story is one that breaks my heart. Shwhitequeencovere was a woman determined to rule her own life in a world where she would never be allowed to. She dreamed of greatness not knowing that she would be the mother to a dynasty of Kings and Queens of England. This woman would who would give birth to her son Henry, future King Henry VII, at the age of thirteen would live to see her son rule England as King and to even see her grandson’s, King Henry VIII’s, coronation shortly before her death. Her life is certainly remarkable, as was that of Elizabeth Woodville. I will certainly be looking for some non fiction to read on these woman. But why did I finally begin to read these? Watching the Starz series, The White Queen, made it so I could not procrastinate reading them any longer. Now I am truly on a new adventure in reading, traveling back in time to England’s bloodiest period.

Big Passion of the Dragon Saga Updates and Other News!

releaseannouncementRayna and I just announced over the weekend the title for the third volume in The Passion of the Dragon  Saga and I am very excited to share it here as well! We have titled it Souls Ignited: The Story of Vlad the Impaler and the Women He Loved and it will release in Paperback and for Kindle on December 12, 2016! The process of writing this series has been an emotional journey full of adventures across the world and learning some new things about history. I’ve always been passionate about history so this just allows me to dig my claws deeper in. Telling the story of Erzsébet with Rayna’s story of Erdenia is something that I am beyond happy to be a part of. Hisboxset1&2tory excites me almost as much as my work on this series does. Rayna and I are building an incredible story here that I love to unfold with her, puzzle piece by puzzle piece. To celebrate this we will also be releasing a special digital boxed set of Hearts on Fire and Love in Flames on August 24, 2016! The boxed set is now available for pre-order on Amazon for you Kindle readers. You can also read the first two books on Kindle Unlimited or catch them on their upcoming Kindle deals! There is a full update, including those details and more from Rayna and myself in our latest series blog post.

I am still working on other projects. The fantasy series is coming along rather nicely, actually. I plan to share a piece of the writing with the world later on this week. It’s just a simple, short paragraph but it will give you some kind of premise for this story that’s been cooking up in my head for more than a decade. Stay tuned for that to come this week!

phoenixfromtheashesfrontcoverfinalresizeAs for my poetry, you can read both Behind the Mask and Phoenix from the Ashes for free on Kindle Unlimited or you can get a free copy of them when they go free on Kindle coming up very soon! Phoenix from the Ashes will be free on August 3 – 7, 2016 and Behind the Mask will be free August 25-29, 2016 in exclusive Amazon Kindle deals!

Life has been insane for me lately but I have some upcoming plans for my blog besides just the sneak peak (and other looks) at my in development fantasy series. Keep an eye out for:

  • A blog (or several) about Game of Thrones because let’s face it I am as addicted to it as the rest of the world.
  • A blog about my latest adventure in reading Philippa Gregory’s Cousins War series. I just finished reading The White Queen and have begun to read The Red Queen.
  • A blog about Kim Harrison’s Hollows Series, which I finished reading earlieHouse_Targaryen_Sigilr this year. A fantastic read for anyone who loves a good fantasy series about witches and other supernatural things.
  • Some more bits and pieces of my poetry.
  • Some personal insight into The Passion of the Dragon Saga, working with Rayna, Vlad’s story, visiting Romania, and much more.
  • A blog (or several) about the music that inspires me most and I can’t function without.
  • A blog (or several) about my historical obsessions like The Tudors and The Borgias, along with the tv shows that stemmed from their legacies.

My hope is to be blogging more often so there is what to expect! Keep up for more news on The Passion of the Dragon Saga and much more! I’ll be blogging at least once more this week on my in development fantasy series.

Lots of changes!

11008385_10152728610631179_3717974064164285695_nI’ve been working towards making lots of changes to my blog. I have decided now that I’ve moved to wordpress to make it more than a blog. It will now be my full website, featuring a lot more than just my blog posts. I’ll start sharing more about my writing as well as my inspirations. I want to bring a little more of my world to everyone. I, also, want to give a little insight on how I am inspired. I think sharing these things might help others find a little inspiration of their own.

There will be some new things added to my website as well! I’ll be having guest bloggers now. My plan is to have at least two of them a month. If you would like to guest blog, please contact me! I will, also, be in support of my fellow Indie authors will be doing blog spotlights, interviews and more! I would love to feature you! Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you would like me to feature you or your work! In addition to those things and my normal blogs about life, inspiration, and my writing I will be sharing some of my personal recommendations of things from music to beauty products. I’m already getting started on the new things and have my first guest blogger already lined up! I’m quite excited.

1743474_477675745735007_2411482883235853738_nEven though I am making all of these changes, I am still a writer. Writing is a big part of me. I’m not sure where I would be without it, to be honest. I write because I have an imagination that is always running wild. I write because it is my therapy. I write because it makes me happy. I write because it helps me process my feelings and dreams. I write because it is how I live, by creating new worlds with pen and paper. Being a writer has been who I am for most of my life and I love that I have not let anything take that from me. I do not write for anything but myself and am very happy to be sharing it with the world. I chased my dreams and now live a life without regret because I did go after them. I am living my dreams every day. This is who I am and I would tell a perfect stranger to find out who they are, chase their dreams, and never ever give up on anything that makes them happy.

I honestly cannot wait to share more with the world on this website. There will be more inspiration, more writing, and more of so many things. It’s the start of something new in my life as I sit here listening to Epica and writing. I’m in the process of starting to select the poems for my next poetry collection, Phoenix from the Ashes. I’m also writing with Rayna on Love in Flames, the second volume of The Passion of the Dragon Saga, as I type this. New things are coming and they’re starting now!

Also, don’t forget to sign up for the email newsletter that Rayna Kingston and myself will be doing once a month!
