Currently Reading: The Red Queen by Philippa Gregory

redqueencoverRight now I am reading The Red Queen (The Cousins’ War #2) by Philippa Gregory. Gregory is an author who I had been wanting to read for some time. I am officially in love with her writing! She spins some incredible historical fiction that leaves me constantly aching for more. I have the hardest time putting her books down! The first of her books I read was The White Queen (The Cousins’ War #1) and it tells the story of Elizabeth Woodville, wife and Queen to Edward IV of England. The Red Queen, which I am currently reading, is the story of Margaret Beaufort, mother of Henry Tudor aka King Henry VII of England. I had never read much about her though I am fascinated by Tudor era England. Margaret is a member of the Lancaster branch of the Plantagenet family, hence the title of The Red Queen. The title for The White Queen comes from Elizabeth being the Queen to the York Plantagenet King Edward IV and mother to the Princes in the Tower. I was already fascinated by the history of the Wars of the Roses, especially knowing my ancestors are those Lancasters. So far, Margaret’s story is one that breaks my heart. Shwhitequeencovere was a woman determined to rule her own life in a world where she would never be allowed to. She dreamed of greatness not knowing that she would be the mother to a dynasty of Kings and Queens of England. This woman would who would give birth to her son Henry, future King Henry VII, at the age of thirteen would live to see her son rule England as King and to even see her grandson’s, King Henry VIII’s, coronation shortly before her death. Her life is certainly remarkable, as was that of Elizabeth Woodville. I will certainly be looking for some non fiction to read on these woman. But why did I finally begin to read these? Watching the Starz series, The White Queen, made it so I could not procrastinate reading them any longer. Now I am truly on a new adventure in reading, traveling back in time to England’s bloodiest period.

Big Passion of the Dragon Saga Updates and Other News!

releaseannouncementRayna and I just announced over the weekend the title for the third volume in The Passion of the Dragon  Saga and I am very excited to share it here as well! We have titled it Souls Ignited: The Story of Vlad the Impaler and the Women He Loved and it will release in Paperback and for Kindle on December 12, 2016! The process of writing this series has been an emotional journey full of adventures across the world and learning some new things about history. I’ve always been passionate about history so this just allows me to dig my claws deeper in. Telling the story of Erzsébet with Rayna’s story of Erdenia is something that I am beyond happy to be a part of. Hisboxset1&2tory excites me almost as much as my work on this series does. Rayna and I are building an incredible story here that I love to unfold with her, puzzle piece by puzzle piece. To celebrate this we will also be releasing a special digital boxed set of Hearts on Fire and Love in Flames on August 24, 2016! The boxed set is now available for pre-order on Amazon for you Kindle readers. You can also read the first two books on Kindle Unlimited or catch them on their upcoming Kindle deals! There is a full update, including those details and more from Rayna and myself in our latest series blog post.

I am still working on other projects. The fantasy series is coming along rather nicely, actually. I plan to share a piece of the writing with the world later on this week. It’s just a simple, short paragraph but it will give you some kind of premise for this story that’s been cooking up in my head for more than a decade. Stay tuned for that to come this week!

phoenixfromtheashesfrontcoverfinalresizeAs for my poetry, you can read both Behind the Mask and Phoenix from the Ashes for free on Kindle Unlimited or you can get a free copy of them when they go free on Kindle coming up very soon! Phoenix from the Ashes will be free on August 3 – 7, 2016 and Behind the Mask will be free August 25-29, 2016 in exclusive Amazon Kindle deals!

Life has been insane for me lately but I have some upcoming plans for my blog besides just the sneak peak (and other looks) at my in development fantasy series. Keep an eye out for:

  • A blog (or several) about Game of Thrones because let’s face it I am as addicted to it as the rest of the world.
  • A blog about my latest adventure in reading Philippa Gregory’s Cousins War series. I just finished reading The White Queen and have begun to read The Red Queen.
  • A blog about Kim Harrison’s Hollows Series, which I finished reading earlieHouse_Targaryen_Sigilr this year. A fantastic read for anyone who loves a good fantasy series about witches and other supernatural things.
  • Some more bits and pieces of my poetry.
  • Some personal insight into The Passion of the Dragon Saga, working with Rayna, Vlad’s story, visiting Romania, and much more.
  • A blog (or several) about the music that inspires me most and I can’t function without.
  • A blog (or several) about my historical obsessions like The Tudors and The Borgias, along with the tv shows that stemmed from their legacies.

My hope is to be blogging more often so there is what to expect! Keep up for more news on The Passion of the Dragon Saga and much more! I’ll be blogging at least once more this week on my in development fantasy series.

Updates: Back to work on The Passion of the Dragon Saga & More!

passionofthedragonsaga2Rayna & I are back to work on The Passion of the Dragon Saga! Don’t miss out on the updates on the website!

I’m currently working out ideas for the artwork of my next poetry collection while I start choosing the poems for it. It’s a challenge so far but there will be a lot more to come soon as it will be releasing April 6th. I am so excited. I’ve got so many ideas in my head for this as a poetry series to show a journey of healing. Part one of this journey will be titled Antidote for the Poison. I am hoping that showing my journey of healing from dark depression and post traumatic stress disorder will help others who have their own struggles. That is why I share my poetry as each one is a piece of my heart and soul.phoenixfromtheashesfrontcoverfinal

Don’t miss out on the Kindle Free Promotion on my already released poetry collections (Behind the Mask and Phoenix from the Ashes) this weekend, February 5-7! Kindle users, get your copy for free! There will be a Kindle Free Promotion on Hearts on Fire and a Kindle Countdown Deal coming up this month on The Passion of the Dragon Saga novels (Hearts on Fire and Love in Flames). I’ve also been doing  a little work on a Fantasy series I’ve been developing for over a decade now. I’m not sure when I will have more details to share but it’s just something I’m working on every now and then. I do plan on focusing more on it after Rayna and I finish writing The Passion of the Dragon Saga.

Hopefully I will be sharing some more exciting things soon!

Love in Flames has released!

front cover miniI’m very excited to say that Love in Flames is now available! Rayna and I worked very hard on the writing of this book. It took its toll on us mentally and emotionally but proved to be well worth it in the end. For me, this was very hard to write at times due to how connected I tend to be with my character. Rayna and I seem to have excelled at bringing the characters that we write into ourselves as if we are them as we pen their story. Bringing this story to life has been a challenge for me as a writer. It has taught me a lot and I know it will continue to teach me. For example, up until I began writing this series with Rayna, I had a horrible time writing things in first person point of view and now it comes to me much easier. Everything in life is a learning process just as everything in writing is for a writer. I’m quite thankful to Rayna for continuing to push me to better myself as a writer and it is because of her that I have more confidence writing in a point of view that I had always struggled with. I do intend on writing a more in-depth blog about this soon. For now, head over to the website for The Passion of the Dragon Saga to view the latest news, check out the teasers, read a review of the book by fellow author Lola Blake, and even find links to where you can purchase Love in Flames: The Story of Vlad the Impaler and the Women He Loved.

Behind Phoenix from the Ashes: A bit about my own survival

phoenixfromtheashesfrontcoverfinalresize

In nine short days, my second collection of poetry will be released to the world. Behind the Mask was a showing of what someone truly hides behind their every day mask they present to the world. Phoenix from the Ashes is a story of survival. It is the story of my survival but I have learned that I am far from alone. There are many people in this world that suffer with the big bad demon of depression and just as many live with PTSD. All of us that live with those things every day are survivors. I am a survivor and despite my past I have in the end chosen to keep living in this world working towards something better for me. To the those of you out there struggling these issues, please remember you are far from alone.

I’ve struggled with depression for most of my life. I have since been diagnosed with PTSD due to the trauma of my past. What trauma do you ask? I grew up in the sheltered but fearsome home of a narcissistic mother. Finding my way out of that chaotic hell was a journey that I am grateful for today that I was too stubbphoenixfromtheashesteasermydeclarationoffreedomorn to give up on. I am away from my mother. In fact, I am 5,300 miles away from my mother and have not willingly s
poken to her in over three years. There are those that still tell me things like “she’s your mother” or “you only get one mother” but they are the same people who have no idea what life under the influence with a narcissist is like. After finding a multitude of support groups and pages on Facebook, I have discovered just how many have suffered in this same hell on earth that I did. It is wonderful to know that you aren’t crazy when you live in a world like that. It was something that showed me something was never wrong with me but wrong with my mother. It was relieving in a way to discover that though I had always been raised to believe I was the problem that I wasn’t.

I’ve been on a long journey of trying to find myself since walking away from my mother. I’ve learned about different things pertaining to what I had gone through. I’ve used it to help strengthen me. I’ve also written to release the feelings I had held inside for so long. There are so many of these poems that are rooted in living with a
narcissistic parent and the invisible scars it leaves behind. Why am I sharing this? I want people to know exactly phoenixfromtheashesteaseriwillkeeprisingwhere I’ve been so that maybe my writing just might help
them find their way out of a dark hole and into seeing that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I know how hard trying to live through this experience is first hand and I want to help others find their way to better days in their own lives. No one deserves to have live through that kind of pain.

I want Phoenix from the Ashes: Poetry from Personal Struggle, Rebirth, & Triumph to show my journey. I have separated it into three different sections naming them Fall to Darkness, Burning Day, and From the Ashes. These seventy-five poems let you see into my soul and my pain. I set it up to be metaphorical like that of a mythical phoenix to show that anyone can theoretically have a burning day and rise from the ashes someone reborn. Anyone has that power inside themselves and if there is anything I hope to come from my poetry it is that it helps lead others to that same discovery.

I’ve added a few resources on Narcissistic Mothers below. Phoenix from the Ashes: Poetry from Personal Struggle, Rebirth, & Triumph releases November 12, 2015 in Paperback and Kindle formats worldwide from KCL Publishing. For those of you out there struggling, please never hesitate to seek help and know you’re never alone.

Welcome to my new blog!

After a lot of thinking, I have decided to move my blog from tumblr to wordpress. I will be moving all of my main posts from tumblr to here very soon! I’ll also be completing my posting of the poems I wrote for NaPoWriMo. I enjoyed challenging myself to write with every single prompt that was given this year and completing them. I’m going to continue to challenge myself to do more things like this in the future as it benefits my writing and creative thoughts in so many ways.

Rayna Kingston and I launched a website for the book series we are writing together known as The Passion of the Dragon Saga today! Check it out! I’m currently writing on the third chapter of the second volume of the series to be titled Love in Flames: The Story of Vlad the Impaler and the Women He Loved. We have both enjoyed sharing Hearts on Fire: The Story of Vlad the Impaler and the Women He Loved with the world as the first volume of the series. The wonderful feedback and reviews we have received have made us absolutely giddy!  This has been an incredible journey that we are just really getting started with. Hearts on Fire has been out for a little over two months now and we expect Love in Flames to release in early 2016. I’m very proud to say that I chased my dreams and do not regret for one second convincing my best friend to write this story. It is just too good to not share with the world. I know that we both cannot wait to see where else this takes us! If you happen to check out the website, you will for the first time see actual biographies for the three lead characters of Vlad, Erdenia, and Erzsébet.

Now for me it’s back to some music, which today is a Nightwish and Delain playlist in preparation for the concert on Wednesday that Rayna and I will be both be attending, and to write more on Love in Flames!
